When a preacher steps into the pulpit, he may carry a few things with him. A Bible. A sermon manuscript. A bottle of water. Perhaps a little something that’ll serve as an object lesson as he preaches. But whatever he brings, I hope he includes two birds.
There are Christians who kiss the crucifix, but I’ve yet to see reverential lips laid on the Ten Commandments. Some hate them, others mock them, most ignore or endure them—present company included. We certainly don’t kiss them in adoration and love.
Many things happened on the day Yahweh stood atop a mountain named Sinai. A thick cloud dressed this desert crag in the color of goth. Thunder bellowed from deep within the blackened mist. Jagged arrows of lightning hissed through the sky.
Mothers may disagree about the best age at which to wean a baby, but I trust they all agree that, sooner or later, little Johnny's going to have to get his milk elsewhere. It’s all part of growing up. Before you know it, that child will mature from a baby to a toddler to a teen.
