John the Fearless Baptist

This prophet named John, Elijah’s true heir,
A preacher of truth, he had him a pair.
Ordained in the womb, he worshiped his Lord,
Who gave him a tongue, as sharp as a sword.
From speaking God’s word, he never would shrink,
He gave not a damn what others might think.
A king he attacked for whoring in bed,
Though sermons like that would cost him his head.
But thus it shall be, for spokesmen of God,
Who walk in the way, their Savior has trod.
